What to Expect in Counseling
First and foremost, you can expect respect. With that comes safety, support and acceptance.
Counseling is a place to talk openly about your desires, fears, concerns, challenges and hopes. Relationship counseling focuses on strengthening your relationship or increasing your readiness for one, by improving one’s capacity for emotional connection. Counseling for intimacy or sexual issues is a talk therapy to address problems with sexual functioning and improve intimate relationships through genuine self-exploration and better communication.
We will start by discussing the challenges you are experiencing and how you would like things to be different. Often, the most important thing we do at first is to help you learn to speak openly about sex and relationships in a shame-free way. We will explore your personal history, your social and cultural background, and a bit about your childhood and family life in order to understand where you’re coming from.
We will then focus on finding solutions to address the challenges you are facing. Equally important, I will work with you to to improve self-acceptance and help you feel confidence in your relationships.
